Excellent central location, friendly and helpful staff, with a warm welcome. Great value for money, very clean despite not being the most modern of hotels. Clearly the owners are rightfully proud of what they offer, and deserve to be too.

The location is absolutely excellent for Cardiff city centre. A few steps from many bars, restaurants and tourist points of interest, perfect for our long weekend visit. The hotel itself is clean and pleasant, very friendly staff, the twin room was a good size and the beds were comfortable. Dressing table and surface space was very helpful. Lots of natural light through big windows. You don't carry your keys off the premises but ring a bell to be let in as reception staff are always present. Overall it was a very good stay and I would recommend it and stay here again.

The million-euro question is, can you find an affordable hotel and enjoy a good night's sleep there? The answer is: Cardiff Sandringham hotel! I'm always a little bit worried about this, and was so happy at Sandringham. I requested a silent room and received a room not facing the street. The staff was so lovely and they had upgraded my room because of this. And I cannot believe how well the windows blocked the street noise, even though the hotel lies exactly in the city centre. You are literally able to go shopping and come back or visit the castle and have a break in the room and go back and forth and it is so easy. The hotel is in the middle of the city. The staff is amazing. Everyone was so friendly and they also asked about my day. I really felt like a special guest and they cared about my daily tours and plans. It felt like a warm welcome since I was travelling alone. I really recommend this hotel to any single female traveller. You don't have to take any dodgy roads or dark alleys to get to the hotel. The entrance is on a well lit main street and there are 24/7 shops nearby. The hotel reception is also open 24/7. Yet you can sleep comfortably! If I'm ever back in Cardiff I'd love to stay at Sandringham again.

We paid just over £40 per night for a double room in the very centre of the city, during Christmas market season. We knew it wouldn't be the Ritz but it was fantastic value for the price. The staff were all lovely. We didn't try the hotel breakfast but there are plenty of places nearby to get food.

Welcoming hosts and a good sized comfortable room. Clean comfy bed, tv, with tea and coffee. The hotel is on St Mary street which is lined with bars, restaurants, Tesco, Sainsbury etc. Being so central it's a quick walk to everything, 6 minutes to Cardiff Staition.

We had a big room and a large bathroom. The receptionists were amazing. So friendly and super interested in us, why we were there what our plans were. Not only to us, but to all customers. One asked about a specific bus and they looked it up on Internet. There were free paper maps to take of just to point locations out, tips and advice. Just very customer friendly and helpful. This makes or breaks a hotel. At checkout time, about 4 or 5 people left their bigger bags/ luggage there for the day ( so we could go off shopping) and yet again, no issues, all good, put them in the corner there. How lovely is that? No extra charge. And this is something you want from a hotel. A friendly person who is keen to help when you are on a trip. Just lovely. On top of this all: we could make our own tea and coffee in the room. It's a 2 star hotel, so I hadn't expected this little extra, but it's a nice little extra and it was clean and good quality teabags and (decaf) coffee, milk and sugar. Just right. And nice. I asked for 2 extra pillows for me and my daughter and we got that. No extra charge.

Very affordable, even with the Booking.com markup. You get what you pay for, but that in no way means that what you're getting is "cheap". Really nice place and really friendly staff, I'd definitely recommend this hotel if you're on a budget. The whole place is a bit dated, but I feel as though that adds to the charm.

Staff were super welcoming and friendly, felt like a home away from home. Easy to get to st David's centre, utilita arena, train station, all in less than 10 mins walk. Lots of space, comfy beds. Clean bathroom. Would definitely stay here again.

Super central location only minutes from the train station, castle and loads of pubs. Due to its central location might feel noisy at night but it was not for us. It is very safe with CCTV and a lock on the door (so no drunken people can come it at night!) and 24-hour service at reception. The staff was all lovely and accommodating. It's a small family-run business so it was simple in design and facilities, but we did not mind at all. Is serves the purpose perfectly. Do try their cooked breakfast. They also kept our luggage for a few hours on the day of departure.

The price was good value for money for the centre of Cardiff. The hotel was easy to find as close to the main train station. The hotel was within easy walking distance of Sophia Gardens cricket ground. The room had a kettle in it. The (female) hotel owner was extremely friendly and helpful.
